  16. This is the multicol package that contains the multicol.sty option for
  17. producing multi-column output with standard LaTeX. To generate
  18. executable files from this package you need the utility programs
  19. docstrip and doc.sty which are contained in the doc package mz0.
  20.  
  21. You should get the following files:
  22.  
  23.  
  24.   multicol.doc     `multicolumn' style for LaTeX, you have to run this
  25.                    through the docstrip.tex program to produce the
  26.                    corresponding style file.
  27.  
  28.   readme.mz        File that describes distribution restrictions and
  29.                    gives a short overview about other distributions from
  30.                    Mainz.

  32.   readme.mz1       This file.
  33.  
  34.   install.mz1      This is the installation script that will produce
  35.                    the executable files in this package and the driver
  36.            files for the documentation.

  40. To produce the executable files please run install.mz1 through LaTeX or
  41. TeX, i.e., say
  42.  
  43.    latex install.mz1
  44.  
  45. or whatever is necessary to run process a file with LaTeX on your
  46. system.  This will generate all necessary files. If you already have
  47. older versions of the files, the script will ask whether or not you
  48. want to overwrite those versions. Note, that the script calls
  49. docstrip.tex internally which is distributed in the doc package (MZ0).

  51. This script will produce the following files:
  52.  
  53.   multicol.sty    The multicol style option for LaTeX.
  54.   multicol.drv    The driver file for producing the documentation.
  55.  
  56.  
  57. To produce the documentation run the corresponding driver files
  58. through LaTeX.  You are allowed to change the driver files to get a
  59. special layout, etc.  To get an index and history listing run the idx
  60. and glo files through the program MAKEINDEX.  MAKEINDEX should be part
  61. of every LaTeX installation.

  63. Please note that you need to specify a style file for MAKEINDEX:
  64.  
  65.    gind.ist   for the index file   (result should be named *.ind)
  66.    gglo.ist   for the history file (result should be named *.gls)
  67.  
  68. Sample invocation for Unix:

  70.    makeindex -s gind.ist multicol
  71.    makeindex -s gglo.ist -o multicol.gls multicol.glo

  73. The \fileversion and \filedate lines below are generated so that you can
  74. easily check differences from your version by using diff etc.
